Oracle buys Stellent

Oracle's acquisition spree continues. The software giant announced that it has agreed to acquire Stellent Inc., a provider of enterprise content management software solutions, through a cash tender offer for $13.50 per share, or approximately $440 million.

The acquisition makes sense.

Why? Because it will complement and extend Oracle's existing content management solution products. Stellent's Universal Content Management platform is said to work with Oracle Content Database and offers solutions for document management, web content management, information rights management, digital asset management, records and retention management, imaging, governance, risk, and compliance.

Stellent's platform lets users deploy multiple line-of-business applications like public Web sites, intranets and extranets, compliance processes, and marketing brand management. According to Stellent, over 4,700 customers worldwide have selected its solutions to power business applications.

MetaSolv Software was the most recent company purchased by Oracle and it was announced just two weeks ago during the OpenWorld business event.

Since January 2005, Oracle has acquired 25 companies (Stellent being the 25th). Included in the list of companies acquired by Oracle are: Siebel Systems, Portal Software, PeopleSoft, and Sunopsis.

The transaction is subject to customary conditions and is expected to close by the end of the year or early 2007.
