Oracle revealed that the International Labor Office (ILO), with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland has implemented their e-Business Suite. The ILO, a specialized U.N. agency, decided to implement the software as part of an office-wide business initiative called the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS).
The IRIS Project went live last April 2005 with 1,500 users. IRIS was designed in line with the specific requirements of the U.N. Common System, which sets the standard for a number of practices including employee entitlements and compensation, travel rules and calculations, and performance management.
The implementation included the following Oracle applications: Financial Management, Payroll, Advanced Benefits, iProcurement, Purchasing, Projects, Labor Distribution, iExpenses and Human Resources Management System.
Oracle collaborated with the ILO to develop a travel application, international payroll, and a tool for loading U.N. salary and benefit scales. Other Oracle tools and technologies were used to deliver features like the Strategic Management (SM) application, which is designed to assist management in planning, managing, monitoring and reporting against output-based activities that have been defined within a framework.
According to Oracle, implementing their suite at the ILO makes the group compliant with the International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS). IPSAS was recently adopted by the United Nations; the U.N. Task Force on Accounting Standards is overseeing the implementation of IPSAS across all of its agencies.
